I’ll post bike - photo of my new Storm tomorrow. In the meantime, I really need to share the amazing information about bamboo bikes and how we actually nowadays can grow our own bicycle. The Bamboo Bike Project is a joint project run by Craig Calfee of Calfee Design, a high tech bicycle design firm based in California and The Earth Institute at Columbia University. They are building bicycles in
a sustainable fashion using bamboo as the primary construction materia.
This is not just a cool bike. It is appropriate for everyday use and for racing. The vibration damping is a performance advantage on longer rides. Each frame is built to order and every frame is a unique. Tubes are selected for the weight of the rider. The geometry of the frame can be any of our usual geometries: Pro, Tri or Cross. Custom frames can also be made. Mountain Bike frames are available too. [more on Calfee Design's website]
Bamboo bikes are being produced in Ghana, with the ultimate aim to encouraging people to design and build their own. I googled and found this article about how to build own bamboo bicycle, so maybe it will help both you and me to build our own. I am bit concerned about that the combination of Magnum and bamboo bike in the same room can have catastrophical outcomes. The bamboo bike would be probably kind of a chew toy for Magnum who is adept at eating wooden sticks with his really powerful and giant jaws.
PS: The wooden bicycle is centuries old, but fashion is cyclical.
