Yesterday I got an email with the following question: “What happens when a solitary day hike turns into the ultimate test of survival?” A friend of mine sent me a link to the trailer for 127 Hours, an upcoming film directed by Danny Boyle about a young rock climber named Aron Ralston who, in 2003, amputated his own arm to free himself from a rock.  As much as I admire Aron Ralston, I will not be seeing this movie. I prefer to watch the documentary. Anyways, here comes the trailer for 127 Hours:

We are heading to Melita, Durmitor and Maglic but I wouldn´t mind spending our next holiday in Ciudad Perdida. I am really angry with Kraig because he posted a link to an amazing video, and now I also need to put Ciudad Perdida trek to my ´life list of must do´ treks. Anyways, enjoy your summer folks. See you in August.

Just kidding. This post is not about Smoke City, music and underwater love but about underwater basejump. World champion freediver Guillaume Nery dives at Dean’s Blue Hole, the deepest blue hole in the world. The video is filmed entirely on breath hold by his girlfriend and the French champion Julie Gautier to emphasise innovative camera moves and to show the link between freediving and base jumping. Filmed with 5D Marc II, and it completely blew my mind.

Today, I got a link to Dean Potters new video, and I still can’t stop thinking about Jonathan Livingston, Icarus and how all limitations are self imposed: “You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment that you touch perfect speed. And that isn’t flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a limit, and perfection doesn’t have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there.”
